OUT OF DARKNESS

Mark Herschler is a composer, singer and guitar player who has been working more in Europe than the United States. In Europe he has toured with the Lost Wandering Blues and Jazz Band, whose repertoire has included classics of the modern American musical tradition. His song writing and singing reflects his folk blues and jazz background, his guitar combines these elements with some classical and a touch of flamenco which he studied and performed in the south of France. For this CD he has gathered a group of fine American musicians, many of them from the New England area where Mark currently resides.

All songs were recorded with Mark Thayer, Signature Sound Studios, Palmer, MA. Tracks 2,7,9 and 11 were mixed with Danny Bernini at Outpost studios, Slaughtern, MA. Tracks 1,3,4,5,6,8 and 10 were mixed at Looking Glass Studios, New York, NY by Peter Keppler, "Out of Darkness" was mixed with Greg Steele, Derek Studios, Dalton MA. The album was mastered with Jim Hemingway, Shutebury, MA. Touchup mastering by Toby Mountain Northeastern Digital.

Drunken Boat
I stand, wind in my face
no stranger to spirit's embrace
taking heart the old crow will show me the way
down to the harbor at the end of the day

Well the hour is late, the old man is glowing
the price of a ticket is al that you own
We're off on a journey in the darkness we'll grow
All aboard, all aboard this Drunken Boat

What's on the horizon is never quite clear
each has a different mind as we near
Drink up and be merry my friends
it's all in the journey, it's not the end

Well the one crying orders can barely stand
There's a man at the keel with his head in his hands
I stand at the end of the deck
ready to walk when the plank gets set
All aboard, all aboard this Drunken Boat

Won't you pour me another drink, young lass
be sure to the top of my glass
Come all, come late, come as you are
You're welcome to come, it ain't very far

Feel our differences melting away
the crashing of glasses, hip-hip- hooray
The dark fluids drowning our fears
the sounding of laughter, the tasting of tears

Let's toast to loves lost, to the blarney and brine
mermaids, and ravens, whiskey and rhyme
Singing and song as we're rounding the bend
it's all in the journey, it's not in the end

Gorge yourself in this great sea of hope...
